Wychwood Brewery

Brewing in Witney dates back to 1811, and Wychwood brewery is sited at the old Eagle Maltings, built more than 150 years ago when barley was malted for the town's brewery. Witney sits on the fringes of an ancient medieval forest, The Wych Wood, and the founders of Wychwood, as well as being passionate about beer, were aware of the legends of the Wychwood Forest and decided to name the brewery after the ancient wood.

Prince Charles Wychwood brewery is home to The Legendary Hobgoblin Strong Dark Ale, and today hand brews more than 40,000 barrels of high quality traditional ale each year. The brewhouse blends a mixture of old traditions and new innovations. The beers contain local water from the River Windrush, English malt, hops and yeast. No additives are used. Wychwood beers are exported in ever increasing quantities all over the world including the USA, Canada, Sweden, France and Japan.

Following the closure of Brakspear brewery in Henley on Thames, in October 2002, Wychwood was committed to bringing the brewing of Brakspear back to Oxfordshire. Major building work was undertaken and the new brewery now incorporates a new brewhouse using the original Brakspear copper, from Henley and a separate Brakspear fermenting room, using the original Brakspear fermenters and dropping vessels, so characteristic of the famous Brakspear Double Drop brewing system.

Wychwood Brewery is now home to Wychwood and Brakspear beers.
