May we welcome you to the historic town of Witham set in the heart of Essex countryside. Witham with its two shopping precincts and numerous retail outlets in the town centre offers a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs - and if you enjoy detective stories you will know that Dorothy L Sayers author of the Lord Peter Wimsey books was a resident here!

After you have strolled along Newland Street taking in the delights of the street scene, you can enjoy a leisurely amble along the River Walk to historic Chipping Hill, a settlement since the Iron Age and the main site of occupation until the twelfth century when the Knights Templar moved to the present town centre on the London/Colchester Road.

For more information on the town’s history or places to visit, make sure that you call in to the Tourist Information Centre at the Town Hall, Newland Street.
