In
the summer months it seems as though there are not enough
weekends to fit in all the Fetes, Fayres and Garden Parties
To give you a flavour of some of the activities:
Open
Gardens
At the height of the summer, a number of gardens in the town
are open for charity (Witham in Bloom initiative)
Witham
in Bloom Competitions
By July the town is looking a picture ready for the Witham
in Bloom Competitions. The local businesses not only bedeck
their premises with hanging baskets and window boxes but also
generously sponsor the event. Local gardens vie with one another
to win the coveted Best Front Garden Award.
Mediaeval
Fayre
On the last Saturday in June, a Fayre is organised by people
involved in the activities of Witham’s parish church,
St Nicolas. Roads in the Chipping Hill area are closed and
the green and street in front of the church is host to stalls,
sideshows and games, many of which are given a mediaeval flavour.
Carnival
Day
Witham Carnival is always the second Saturday in July, and
a joyful occasion when business, clubs and groups decorate
floats for parade through the Town Centre. Participants eventually
reach the recreation ground where the arena events and displays
are held. Stalls, sideshows and fairground attractions surround
the arena. Profits are donated to various charities.
Witham in Bloom Awards Evening
As a thank you for all those who took part, in the autumn
the prestigious Awards Evening, is held by the Witham in Bloom
Conservation Group.
Annual
Puppet Festival
Held in September, a fun day for all the family. Over the
last few years this event has grown to be one of the biggest
such events in the Eastern Region.
Firework
Display
Organised by the Round Table and takes place on a Saturday
in November.
Christmas
Carol Service
Takes place in December around the Christmas tree in Newland
Street.
Boxing
Day Duck Race
