The magnificent silver mace of Wisbech is the symbol of authority
of the Town Council and proudly carried by, Alister Hopkins, the
Town Beadle, at civic events, functions and duties.
It was presented to the Mayor and the Corporation of the Borough
of Wisbech by Baron Peckover, after he had been given his peerage
‘in remembrance of the hearty welcome home given him on the
16th July, 1907’
The Wisbech town Mace is displayed in a magnificent oak cabinet
commissioned by the Mayor, David Oliver during 2007/2008, as a youth
project for the Town Council. It was the end of year piece by seventeen
year old Chris Tomba, a student at the College of West Anglia in
Wisbech.
The cabinet also houses many of the Town Council’s civic artefacts
and the town charters.
