The Minor Injury Unit at Verrington Community Hospital in Wincanton is now called the Verrington Treatment Centre. There is no doctor based at this Treatment Centre but qualified nurses provide treatment for minor injuries and will also carry out some of the tasks you might expect a nurse to perform at your local GP surgery. There is a dedicated nurse in the unit from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (01963 32006).

The Balsam Centre is a thriving Healthy Living Centre for Wincanton and the surrounding area. It is now also a flourishing Children’s Centre with a dedicated full day care nursery. A broad range of health, social and education services have their permanent base here and it is the principal venue locally for community and interest groups.

An integral part of the Balsam Centre, the Balsam Project is a healthy living initiative providing opportunities for anyone wanting to make changes in their lives to improve their health and well-being. It offers a wide range of activities and services; from health walks and a toy library to volunteering, healthy cooking and eating and many different types of learning and training. Many activities are available free of charge. The Balsam Project’s sister project, The Growing Space, is a community and therapeutic horticulture project which runs a productive market garden adjacent to the Balsam Centre and is responsible for creating and maintaining the community gardens around it. The Centre also has a range of excellent rooms and facilities for hire for all types of events and meetings.
