The town centre redevelopment of the 1960’s created a pedestrianised
shopping area centred along King Street and the adjoining Riverside
Walk. The town centre contains many familiar high street names one
might expect for a town of its size along with a number
of independent retail outlets. Larger supermarkets and other retail
stores are situated on the outskirts of the town.
Thetford has a wide range of manufacturing, distribution and service
businesses. These are generally situated on the modern industrial
estates alongside the A11 bypass beside the London and Mundford
Roads. Thetford’s location at the centre of East Anglia makes
it an ideal distribution centre for retailers and delivery firms.
Manufacturing is still well represented in the town and the niche
engineering linked to the motor sport industry is poised to be strengthened
further by the proposed Thetford Enterprise Park earmarked alongside
the A11 bypass and further development of the REV (Rural Enterprise
Valley) Project. Thetford is an attractive location for employers
wishing to move to the region and this is born out by the new Keystone
Innovation Centre being substantially filled within one year of
opening.
