Kennet School is 50 on 11th September 2007

schoolKennet School opened on 11th September 1957 and was built at a cost of £148,000, for 430 pupils. 600 pupils arrived on the first day! It was a secondary modern school and soon took its place at the centre of the local community. It became a comprehensive school in 1971 and has seen many great successes and had many important visitors, including HRH Prince Philip in December 1972 (in connection with the Duke of Edinburgh scheme). The school has been led by five Heads, the current one, Mr Paul Dick OBE, having taken his position in January 1989. The school is described by the government as high performing and is in the top 25% of schools nationally. The recent (value added) league tables show that Kennet is the best performing school in West Berkshire. It has won many awards in recent years, including specialisms in Technology, Theatre Arts and Modern Foreign Languages. It enjoys other accolades including Artsmark Gold, Sportsmark, and the Challenge Award. Kennet is only the 16th secondary school in the country to achieve this prestigious award, which is presented to schools demonstrating excellent provision for able, gifted and talented pupils. It is heavily oversubscribed and now enjoys the company of 1720 pupils. 70+ pupils progress each year to university. Kennet remains a school focused on high achievement and on serving the community of the greater Thatcham area. The school looks forward to celebrating its anniversary with friends of all ages.

Trinity School & Performing Arts College

collegeTrinity School is the area’s newest school; it opened its doors to 842 pupils on September 8th 1999. Over the last seven years, Trinity has successfully established itself within the community and nationally; achieving Investors in People status, Sports Mark, Arts Mark Gold, Specialist School status and was the first secondary school in Berkshire to receive both Eco-School status and the government’s Charter Mark for excellence in public service. The school site has undergone significant development with a new English and Humanities block, new library and a Performing Arts block being built. Autumn 2005 saw the opening of the new SEN area and the Community Learning Centre, a welcome facility for the local community. Trinity’s status as a Performing Arts specialist school brings a creative energy and vitality to the school. Student confidence and communication skills underpin all that the school does and enriches the school as a whole without detracting from academic performance. Now with over 950 students, Trinity continues to grow and to offer opportunities to achieve personal excellence, in just 7 years Trinity School has come a long way and shows no signs of slowing as it moves from strength to strength.
