The Phoenix
Trail is a seven-mile path for cyclists, walkers, wheelchair users
and horse riders, between Thame and Princes Risborough. In the future,
it is expected to be extended as far as Oxford. It forms part of
Route 57 of the National Cycle Network built by Sustrans, the civil
engineering charity. The Phoenix Trail won an Arts and Business
Award and was awarded a Certificate of Distinction from the European
Commission as a European Greenway.
The Phoenix
Trail follows the route of a former railway line. As such, it is
flat and the surface is ideal for wheelchairs and pushchairs as
well as bicycles. There are spectacular sculptures and seating every
500 metres, so visitors can rest and enjoy the scenery. Students
of the former Rycotewood College built these impressive sculptures.
