Thame Carnival’s Mardi Gras parade in June 2011 surpassed
the wildest dreams of the Council and of the Carnival Committee.
In recent years it had become increasingly difficult to involve
people in the event. A shot in the arm was needed and who administered
it? Singer/celebrity
Peter Andre of course!
As part of his new ITV2 six-part series - Here To Help - Peter Andre
was told about his challenge shortly before arriving here: to raise
the profile of Thame’s Carnival.
Peter breezed into the Town Hall with Team Andre, a camera crew
and a whole lot of charm. Within seconds the news went around that
Peter Andre was in town and Council officers had their first taste
of screaming fans at the door. It is probably safe to state that
this has never happened at the Town Hall before!
For 3 days, Peter Andre visited Thame’s shops and businesses,
seeking Carnival support. A 12-foot banner was erected across the
High Street and wherever you went, people were talking about the
Carnival. The result was a rip-roaring success.
