For
around 40 years Thame has welcomed the arrival of summer with the
Thame Festival. The Festival normally runs for a week and always
culminates on the third Saturday in June with a carnival parade.
Each year a different theme is chosen. For example, the theme for
2005 was “Fair Trade”, and a fete was held, followed
by an open-air rock night for the young people of the town. The
aim is to provide the town with a fun-filled week of entertainment,
games, and culture and to let off steam.
Party nights are held for the “baby boomers”, quiz nights
for the more intellectual among us and teddy bear picnics for the
“teenies”. The Festival even has its own samba band!
Money is also raised for local causes - when the sun shines the
people of Thame are out on the streets! More help is always needed
to organise this integral part of the town’s social calendar.
Come and join - it’s fun and it’s your community and
your town.
