Market Information
Stowmarket Town Council runs a Street Market on the Market Place
every Thursday and Saturday from 9am – 5pm. The market sells
a wide range of produce including meat, fish, vegetables, clothes,
homeware and much more. On the first Friday of each month in the
Market Place there is a Farmers Market, bringing together a wide
range of stalls selling locally sourced produce. In addition to
this, specialist continental markets are held in the town every
few months, selling various authentic foods and products from Europe.
The Council are also planning to launch a car boot sale on the Iliffe
Way Car Park on Tuesdays in April 2009.

Community Centre Information
Stowmarket Community Centre is located in the Combs Ford area
of Stowmarket and is a popular venue for various clubs and organisations
to hold meetings and events. The building was constructed in 1934
and used to be a Primary School until the Town Council purchased
t he
building in 1985 and turned it into a Community Centre. Nearly 25
years on, there is still evidence of the school around the centre
with many of the old coat pegs remaining. The rooms available for
hire include the Main Hall (120m2), Gainsborough Room (42m2), Munton
and Fison Room (40m2) and Milton Room (40m2). The Munton and Fison
Room is carpeted and has soft furnishings while the Main Hall and
the other two rooms have wooden floors, stackable chairs and erectable
tables. There is full disabled access and a wheelchair if needed.
The kitchen is equipped with kettles, burco boilers, crockery and
other utensils for mass catering.
For booking enquiries and other information about the centre, please
contact the Manager Heather Tooke on 01449 613084 or email: heathert@stowmarket.org.

Recreation Ground
The Recreation Ground at Finborough Road and Recreation Road was
purchased through public subscription after the First World War.
The Town Council now owns and maintains it and
have added a play area and Skate park. The ground is very well used
by residents and visitors and hosts large public events such as
StowFest and Stowmarket Carnival. The Memorial Gates on the Recreation
Ground entrance were erected in memory of those who fell during
the Great War. In addition, a memorial drinking fountain –
which was installed on the Recreation Ground at the same time as
the Memorial Gates – was refurbished and relocated during
2008. The fountain had been tucked away in the corner of the Recreation
Ground for many years and the condition of it had deteriorated.
The fountain was sandblasted and repainted which transformed it
back into the work of art that it was originally. The restored fountain
was relocated in front of the memorial gates – it’s
original location when it was first installed in the 1920s. Both
the fountain and the gates play an important part in Civic events,
such as Remembrance Day.
Regal Cinema & Theatre
The Regal Cinema and Theatre underwent a major refurbishment during
2007 which transformed it into a classy and pleasant venue in which
to enjoy films and live shows. Further improvements in 2008 saw
the installation of a new projector and a refurbishment of the bar
area. The popularity of The Regal has dramatically increased following
these improvements with the venue now a key recreational asset in
the town. If you would like more information on up and coming films
and shows please contact the Box Office on 01449 612825 or visit
the Regal website www.regalstowmarket.co.uk.
StowFest
StowFest has quickly become the Town Council’s biggest public
event. The free music festival on the Recreation Ground was launched
in 2007 with crowds of around 5000 people attending each of the
first two events. The event features a range of established local
music acts playing alongside young bands from the Amplitude youth
music project. Visit the StowFest website at www.stowfest.co.uk.
