Stowmarket Festival:
Stowmarket Festival: Launched in 2010, Stowmarket Festival is
held over ten days at the end of May and start of June. It features
a range of events and activities around Stowmarket with one of the
main aims of the festival being to make things happen in the town
that don’t normally happen here. For example, the 2011 festival
will see the launch of StowBlues, the first
ever Stowmarket Blues Festival, at the Museum of East Anglian Life.
A wide range of events and activities are being planned which you
can find out about by visiting www.stowmarketfestival.co.uk. The
2012 festival is likely to take place around the same time of the
year.
StowFest:
StowFest: Stowmarket Festival culminates in the free two-day music
festival, StowFest. The popular event at Chilton Fields features
a range of excellent quality music acts from around the region on
Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June. A date for the 2012 festival has
not yet been set but you can keep up to date with StowFest information
at www.stowfest.co.uk.
Stowmarket Carnival:
Stowmarket Carnival: Stowmarket Carnival is the biggest annual public
event in Stowmarket, traditionally held during the third weekend
in July. While many towns’ carnivals have struggled and even
died out over the years, Stowmarket Carnival continues to be a thriving
and well supported event and in 2010 celebrated its 50th anniversary.
The carnival features a procession through the town followed by
a packed schedule of events, activities and entertainment at the
Recreation Ground. These include live music, arena events, a fair,
numerous stalls, a motor show on the Sunday and much more. The carnival
also raises thousands of pounds each year for local charities. The
2011 carnival is set to take place on 16th July 2011 whilst dates
for the 2012 carnival have not yet been set. You can find out more
information by visiting www.stowmarketcarnival.co.uk. or our Face
Book page Stowmarket Carnival.
The
Regal Cinema / Theatre:
The Regal Cinema / Theatre: The Regal has had an interesting last
few years; refurbished in 2007, change of management in 2008, fire
damaged in 2009, refurbished again in 2010! It is the only purpose
built cinema in Mid Suffolk and has enjoyed increasing attendances
in recent years. The refurbishment has seen the building transformed
into a classy and pleasant venue in which to enjoy a film or live
show and recently hosted two comedy nights as part of the Town’s
summer and winter festivals. It also features a comfortable lounge
/ bar area in which to relax with a drink before or after a show.
The venue is set for future improvement in 2011 with the planned
installation of a digital projector whilst there are future plans
to install 3D projection.
