St Neots as the centre for your visit

After enjoying all that St. Neots has to offer you may wish to visit the many picturesque villages in the area around St. Neots and along the Great Ouse Valley and trace the history of Catherine of Aragon and the Civil WarBrook Street and St. Mary's Church

Paxton Pits Nature Reserve Very near the village of Little Paxton this extensive nature reserve is founded on the site of old gravel workings. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the staffed Visitor Centre provides a wealth of information on flora and fauna as well as a record of birds recently sighted. There are trails and questionnaires especially designed for young children and bird-watching hides lie scattered throughout the reserve. Telephone 01480 406795 for further details or check our website www.paxton-pits.org.uk. (In nearby Sandy is the Headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds). In addition to the nature reserve, Paxton Pits also has a watersports zone that offers fishing, sailing and waterskiing.

Buckden Towers The historic village of Buckden with its two ancient coaching hostelries is but a ten minute drive from St. Neots. Visit the gardens of Buckden Towers, formerly the palace of the Bishops of Lincoln. Catherine of Aragon was imprisoned here from 1533 to 1534 prior to the annulment of her marriage to King Henry VIII. There is a Tudor garden dedicated to her overlooked by the 15th Century brick Gatehouse and Great Tower. Take refreshment in the village before perhaps carrying on through sleepy hamlets and along country roads to Kimbolton to see the Castle, (now a public school), where Catherine spent her last days. Telephone 01480 810344 for opening times.

Grafham Water, famous for water sports and cycling, is nearby.
