St Ives Town Council

St Ives Borough Council was created in 1874 by a charter granted by Queen Victoria. Exactly a century later, when Local Government was reorganized in 1974, it was replaced by the present-day Town Council. Some of the old Borough Council’s powers were transferred to the District Council in Huntingdon, but the new Town Council carries on the Borough’s traditions Oliver Cromwell: the town's most famous resident is remembered in this statue on the Market Hill.with its robes and its mace, the Mayor’s chain of office, and its location in the 19th-century Town Hall. With its local base St Ives Town Council keeps in close touch with its electors and provides services that are important to the townspeople. A major recent project was the restoration of the Corn Exchange, another 19th-century building just across the Market Hill from the Town Hall. The Corn Exchange is an important community facility, providing a public hall in the heart of the town centre. The Town Council also provides allotments, parks, seats, cemeteries and open spaces and runs the Norris Museum. You can telephone the Council offices on 388929 or email clerk@stivestowncouncil.gov.uk.
