The
400th Anniversary of the Royal Charter was celebrated in the town
with numerous events including the planting of Mulberry trees in
each of Romsey Infras three wards. The highlight of the celebrations
was a visit by Her Majesty the Queen and his Royal Highness, the
Duke of Edinburgh on 8 June 2007.
A Charter Celebration Service was held in Romsey Abbey. Her Majesty
unveiled the Charter Stone near the old Magistrates Court and then
did a walkabout in Church Street and the Market Place, meeting many
hundreds of Romsey Citizens before attending a reception in Romsey
Town Hall.
