Petersfield

The focus of a good road and rail network, the Town prides itself in being a great place to live and work and to be at your leisure. With a population of just over 14,000 people it provides for around 9,000 jobs with many people coming every day into the Town to work and almost as many commuting out to London, Portsmouth and Southampton.

In 2009 the Town will be host to celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the coming of the railway which completed the direct link between London and the naval hub, Portsmouth.

The centre of the Town and part of the adjoining village of Sheet are Conservation Areas and the whole of the Town is contained within the East Hampshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is hoped that it will become part of the South Downs National Park in the near future.

It seems that you will find a pretty spot around almost every corner. The whole area will repay exploration, with tranquil spaces such as Old Mill Lane at Sheet, Buriton Pond, The High Street Physic Garden, and of course The Heath, just waiting for you.

Transport / Road Links

Petersfield owes its existence to being at the junction of a number of tracks, some going back to pre-historic times. All these tracks have assumed the role of important roads over the years, and have led to the establishment of the Town as a centre for communications for miles around.

Map

The Town is well placed on Britain’s railway network. Petersfield railway station, at the top of Lavant Street, is on the Portsmouth to Waterloo line. Portsmouth is only 25 minutes away with easy access to cross-channel and Isle of Wight ferries and London Waterloo is only 60 minutes by fast train. Petersfield is also the centre of a web of rural bus services as well as Petersfield Autumn Leaveslonger distance coach links to Portsmouth and London.

Petersfield is conveniently placed at the junction of the A3 London to Portsmouth Road and the A272 south coast lateral link, providing easy access to Winchester and beyond to the west, and Midhurst and Petworth to the east.

Gatwick, Heathrow and Southampton airports are easily accessible by train and are an easy drive by road, as is Bournemouth International Airport.
