The
year 2009 celebrates the 100th anniversary of the publication of
the first Petersfield town guide. Since then there have been many
editions, all of them of a high quality which reflect the Town itself
and its organisations.
It is the intention of the Petersfield Town Council that this should
be the best such guide of its kind in the Country. This Guide does
not set out to be a book of lists but will, we hope, give the visitor
or the prospective resident a good flavour of our Town.
In the Petersfield Library at the enquiry desk on the first floor,
you will be able to find details of all the Town’s organisations.
The Tourist Information Centre, which is housed in the same building,
will be more than happy to fill in any detail not readily available.
As to the history of Petersfield, the Museum is the absolute mine
of information on the Town and the surrounding villages. There are
six recent books written on the history of Petersfield,
these books are complimentary to each other and do not overlap in
their coverage.
The Museum is open between 10.00am and 4.00pm Tuesdays to Saturdays
from March to late November.
This guide is pocket sized so that it can be conveniently carried
as you walk around the town. Its centrefold consists of the official
Town Map whose copyright is held for the Town by the Town Council.
The writers have taken to heart many good suggestions since the
publication of the 2006 edition; please keep then coming in!
Finally do enjoy reading this guide.
