Churches

Most denominations are represented in Petersfield. Details are available from the Tourist Information Centre. They live peaceably side by side in a spirit of co-operation and with a common aim. Petersfield Area Churches Together (PACT) is a much respected organisation of local churches that join together in order to further Christianity and provide spiritual support to the community.

St. Peter’s Church

St Peters Church InteriorSt Peter’s stands in The Square, geographically and spiritually at the heart of the Town. It was founded in the 11th Century and has a magnificent arcaded chancel arch (Norman) which led Pevsner to describe the church as “One of the most interesting Norman churches in Hampshire”.

Subject to major re-building in 1873 under Sir Arthur Blomfield, the architect for the diocese of Winchester, project 2000, not only restored some of the mediaeval aspects of the building but added many worthwhile facilities appropriate to the 21st Century.

Due to its prime position and excellent acoustics St Peter’s pursues a policy of encouraging concerts, plays, exhibitions and civic occasions. Details are always available from the church and from the Tourist Information Office.
