Welcome

Paddock Wood Town CouncilPaddock Wood Town Council is pleased to offer this fifth edition of its Town Guide which it is hoped will be helpful to residents and businesses both new and old.
Our Town owes its existence to the railway. In fact, a guide book to the railway in 1853 described Paddock Wood as being “already of no small importance, and which promises to be more important still”.

From railway junction to Village to Town in 160 years, Paddock Wood is still growing and the original reason for its being is still there. It is at the centre of an excellent road and rail transport network with local connections to Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Maidstone together with rail services to London, Folkestone and Dover as well as Ashford (for “Eurostar”) and to Gatwick Airport. Road connections to the A21, M25 and M20 complete the picture.

As a small rural town, Paddock Wood has much to offer including an interesting variety of shops, friendly clubs, good schools and fine sports facilities

All this in what is properly called “The Garden of England” and has been proven by the recent awards in the “South East in Bloom” Competition. Although the Town Council no longer participates in this Competition but it still provides Hanging Baskets etc in the High Street.

I hope you and your visitors will find this guide book informative and entertaining and my thanks go to all those who have contributed, particularly the advertisers who made it possible.

Cllr. Ron Aitchison
Chairman, Paddock Wood Town Council
