The Club was founded in 1986 to provide healthy exercise for children,
and quickly grew to a membership of 120 within 6 months, and has
continued to grow to encompass anyone from 8 years old up to veterans
of 80 plus. With a membership of well over 200, we compete in all
aspects of athletics – track and field events, road races,
cross country races and Sportshall Athletics. We recently held the
annual Startrack Week of fun athletics for children at Mascalls
School and are already planning Winter Startrack events.
Over the years we have seen members become County Champions in various
events and last year Tina Oldershaw and Sue James represented England
in an International Cross Country event. Our league teams have performed
well against stiff opposition from clubs in Kent, London and the
Southern Counties. We are currently the Men’s Road Running
Grand Prix Champions and the Kent Fitness League Cross Country Champions.
We have achieved success training twice a week at Mascalls School
and our plans for the future include a new training track at Putlands
Sports and Leisure Centre. Planning permission has already been
granted for the training track.
Each March we run a very successful Half Marathon through the hop
fields of Kent starting and finishing in Paddock Wood.
We are always glad to accept new members, so if you fancy joining
in our activities, come along to Mascalls School any Tuesday or
Thursday evening at 6.30pm and ask for our Head Coach Mick Duffin
or Assistant Head Coach Richard Elliott. You can also contact Mick
Duffin on 01892 833888 for more information. You will get a months
membership free before committing any money. We cater for all abilities
and also enjoy a good social side as well.
