Sports High Peak Borough Council runs the swimming pool and leisure centre which was built in the 1980s following a major campaign and fund raising in the town. There are many clubs in the New Mills area which offer excellent facilities for sports - especially football, cricket, golf, tennis and bowls. In 1997 New Mills Football Club invested over £200,000 with Lottery Funding to improve its facilities on Church Lane and in 2002 New Mills Golf Club extended its course from 9 to 18 holes.

There is another GP surgery, a dental surgery, and an alternative health clinic, all within the town centre. Most acute services are provided at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport. Minor injuries can be dealt with at Buxton Cottage Hospital.
