Newmarket Twinning

Twinning AssociationMaisons-Laffittee, France

For more than 50 years, the Newmarket Twinning Association has assisted sports clubs, societies and individuals to make new friends across the channel. From the first youth exchanges in 1955, the link between Newmarket and the French towns of Maisons-Laffitte and Mesnil Le Roi is now believed to be the longest continuous Anglo-French twinning arrangement.
Barry Lynham M.B.E., originally from Newmarket but living in Maisons-Laffitte, approached Newmarket Urban District Council with a view to encouraging twinning among young people. Youth Exchanges continue on an annual basis, while the main twinning weekends take place in the spring and autumn.
Further information on activities and membership can be obtained from Mike Nicholas on 01638 664531or mike_nicholas@btinternet.com

Lexington - Kentucky, USA

Newmarket’s link with Lexington began in 2003. Since then we have entertained a group of Students from Lexington as the start of a regular exchange programme. Newmarket College Students will make the return visit in 2008.
The aim is to develop links between the two Towns on a broad basis. We held a very successful Civic Reception for 22 Lexington Link Members in 2006 to celebrate this partnership. All sections of Newmarket were represented and many useful links were formed.
