National Horseracing Museum

The National Horseracing Museum is situated in the High Street next to the Jockey Club and was formerly the Subscription Rooms. The story of racing is told through the museum’s permanent collections, featuring the horses, people, events and scandals that made it so colourful. Items associated with heroes such as Red Rum, Lester Piggott and Frankie Dettori are on display. The Practical Gallery offers the chance of riding a horse simulator under the watchful eye of retired jockeys. To complement the galleries the museum also runs behind the scenes minibus tours during the racing season. The two hour tour takes in the equine swimming pool, a trainer’s yard, the gallops and the historic town. There are also special stud and racing tours throughout the summer.

The new permanent gallery “You Bet!” shows the history of betting with exciting interactivities.
