Nestling in the English rural county of Wiltshire, Melksham is
a market town at the gateway of the West Country. Just twelve miles
from the main East/West M4 motorway, Melksham is surrounded by a
wealth of historical sites and is an excellent centre to explore
nearby historic and picturesque Lacock, and the attractive market
towns of Devizes, Bradford-on-Avon and Chippenham. The cities of
Bath and Salisbury are only a short journey away.
Melksham first appears in the Domesday Book and its prosperity was
founded on agriculture and the woollen cloth-making industry. It
still retains buildings which are centuries old, particularly those
located near St Michael’s Church in Canon Square.
Today, Melksham is a thriving community and is ever expanding with
excellent recreational facilities, including King George V Playing
Fields, swimming pool and sports centre. A large range of clubs
and societies cater for most tastes and range from the recently
formed Model Car Club, to the longstanding Historical Association.
