About the Town

Because of its location on the River Nene, March is part of the Fenland Waterway Nene-Ouse Navigation Link. Fox’s Marina on the outskirts of the town is the only one on the Link Route and offers boat users important facilities such as repairs, moorings, fuel, slipway and hoist, and narrow boat hire. Permanent moorings are available.

Thirty-six hour moorings are available for visitors near the Town Bridge. At Nene Quay, opposite the Riverside Park, a sewage pump out, chemical toilet emptying facilities and a fresh water point can be found.

The waterway into March from the west is both picturesque and tranquil.

Plenty of shopping along High Street and Broad Street Several acres of land, donated to the town, have been developed into a riverside park. To the east is the town swimming pool, Skate Park and children’s play area. In summer the park is used for the town’s festival and weekend music concerts are regularly performed.

The river here is an anglers’ paradise and the most popular town walk is around the river at this point. From a casual stroll around the riverside there is also the six mile circular Woodman’s Walk and for the more serious walker the Hereward Way Long Distance Footpath that passes through the town on its way to Peterborough and Ely.

March is on the ‘Sustrans’ cycle network and Fenland cycle rides, mapped out by Cambridgeshire County Council, are described as ‘Undiscovered, Unspoilt, and Unrivalled.’
