Lutterworth Carnival

Lutterworth Carnival took place this year on Saturday 15 August 2009 on the Coventry Road Recreation Ground. The event commenced with the procession starting from Coates Yard at Lady Wood Works. There were ten floats sporting various designs to tie in, with the, musicals theme, including Grease and Fame. There was also a fire engine, classic cars walkers in Mary Poppins costume and of course the Melton Toy Soldiers, who were once again a popular addition. Luckily the weather was glorious, and the people came out in force to enjoy the many activities.

The Piranha Brothers (a local live band) opened the Carnival and were followed by the many arena activities, which included: Birds of Prey display by Ben’s Birds of Prey, baton twirling by the Lutterworth Jets as well as street dance performances by Future Faces. We were also lucky enough to have our King, Queen and Flower Girls for the day who all looked wonderful and did a wonderful job on the day even though they had to be up bright and early to have their hair done at Jazz then nails at Becky’s Beauty Box! I hope they enjoy their year, and we will be seeing them again at Christmas Lights. The stall holders too had a good day with 78 stalls this year, providing plenty of variety and lots to buy. We also had Pony rides and a Gyroscope for those that were brave enough.

The Carnival itself was a wonderful day and a great end to a very busy week and it also meant that the following competition winners could collect their prizes and well deserved congratulations.

Lutterworth In Bloom - Best Private Garden - Mrs Duly. Best Public House - The Shambles. Best Public Building - The United Reform Church. Best Shop Window Competition - Age Concern. Best Adult Float - Lutterworth Sports Centre with Fame. Best Childs Float - Future Faces with Grease. Best over all float was Asda with Dr Do Little.

Feast Week and Carnival day however wouldn’t be the success it is without the help and support of local businesses and organisations that kindly donated not only their time but gifts or financial support: • Ace Connections • Sound and Vision • Flackies/Neil Green catering • All Wrapped Up & All Dressed Up • Holiday Lounge • Whites The Florist • Lutterworth Plant & Bonsai Nursery • Jazz Hair • Becky’s Beauty Box • Trulee Jewellery • Asda • Tech-ni-fold • Wincanton Britvic • Thirsty People • The Braketeers • Cobley’s Transport • The Shambles Public House • Lutterworth Cricket Club • The Unicorn Inn • The Royal British Legion • Danny and Mitchell Ball • Morrisons • Lidl • Lutterworth Fire Station • The Fox Inn.

On behalf of the Events Working Party we would like to thank all the marshals and Councillors who kindly helped in the preparation and on the day.
