The Grand Union Canal

Leighton-Linslade is the largest town within the administrative area of Central Bedfordshire.
The Town Council came into existence on 1 April 1974 with the powers of a Parish Council. It comprises of 21 members and is elected every four years. Each year one Town Linslade ParkCouncillor is Town Mayor who plays an important role, acting as an ambassador between the Town Council and the general public.

The Town Council has produced what is known as ‘The Big Plan’. This is a community-led document which provides a vision for the future of our town. The first Big Plan was published in 2007. To ensure that the Plan remains relevant and accurately reflects the wishes of those who live and work within the Parish, the Council has revisited this forward Plan and it was revised in early 2011.

The Council has achieved Quality Status under The Quality Parish Scheme. The scheme is designed to provide the benchmark for minimum standards to enable town and parish councils to better represent the communities they serve. Leighton-Linslade Town Council works in partnership with other local authorities and public services in order to provide the best possible service for its residents.

The Council assists, by way of grant funding and officer support, a variety of voluntary and charitable organisations, to enable them to operate for the benefit of the local community.

Splash and Play, Parsons Close The Title of Dignity, “Honorary Burgess of Leighton-Linslade” is given to local residents in recognition of their significant voluntary contribution.

The Town Council is responsible for allotments, cemeteries, parks and open spaces, community events and youth provision (TACTIC - Teenage Advice and Information Centre).

It also endeavours to represent the views of local residents in matters such as planning applications, the Town Plan, transport services, etc.

The Town Council Offices are open for telephone enquiries and personal visits from 0900 until 1700 hours Monday to Thursday and from 0900 until 1630 hours on Friday. The offices are closed at weekends.
