
Hertford Town Council
Hertford Town Council provides a diverse range of services for the
local community, and works in partnership with individuals and organisations
to enhance life in our town. The Council nominates representatives
to local organisations, and makes representations to East Herts
Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Police, Health and other
authorities on behalf of local residents.
The Town Council comprises 16 councillors representing the wards
of Bengeo, Castle, Kingsmead and Sele. To contact any Town Councillor,

Hertford Town Council carries out a range of functions and services
for the town of Hertford. These include:
• Allotments: provides and maintains six
sites at very affordable fees, allotments are available in either
five pole or ten pole sizes. For further information contact the

• Cemetery & Closed Churchyards: care
and maintenance of Hertford cemetery in North Road and All Saints’,
St Andrews, Holy Trinity and St Leonard’s churchyards. For

• Public Amenities: provision and upkeep
of interpretation boards and the clocks at Shire Hall and All Saints
Church.
• Town and Tourist Information Centre: for
information on Hertford and beyond - part of the TIC national network.

• Town Promotion: support and involvement
in town functions and activities with various town organisations.
CCTV: provision and maintenance of CCTV cameras
monitored 24 hours a day.
• Venue Hire: venues for commercial and private
hire - Mill Bridge Rooms and Hertford Castle. (refer to page 12
for further details)
• Hertford Museum: Hertford Town Council
is the majority funding body.
• Hartham Skate Park: we work in Partnership
with East Herts Council, providing significant fu nding
for its operation and upkeep.
• War Memorial: care and maintenance of the
War Memorial in Parliament Square.
• Christmas Lights: the Town Council provide
town centre Christmas lighting.
• Open Spaces: provision and maintenance
of St Leonard’s community garden.
• Youth Town Council: supports and facilitates
the works of Hertford’s Youth Town Council.
• Civic Traditions: ensures civic traditions
and ceremonies associated with the County Town are maintained.
• Events programme: throughout the year,
the Castle and its grounds play host to many community events including
a rock festival, Garden Festival, band concerts and Castle Tours,
all organised by Hertford Town Council and supported by the Friends
of Hertford Castle.
