Entertainment in the village

Henfield’s greatest social asset is the modern Henfield Hall, known to all as the Village Hall. It is situated in Coopers Way, off the High Street and also houses Henfield Museum and the Parish Council Office. The complex includes the Whittome Hall, which seats up to 300 people, and has a well-equipped stage, lighting and audio systems (with loop system) and projection box. The south facing Garden Suite, which can be divided into three if The Henfield Hallrequired, seats 150 and, as its name suggests, opens on to a lawn, so is ideal for summer entertaining. It has its own separate entrance and facilities. There are also Committee Rooms, a well-equipped kitchen and a licensed bar. There is access for the disabled. There is an adjacent car park and a service road that will take coaches.

The Henfield Hall is used extensively by most of the village organisations and more than 90,000 pass through its doors each year. In addition it hosts exhibitions, craft and toy fairs, concerts, jumble sales, wedding receptions and parties and countless other activities. Current released films are shown regularly and the Henfield Theatre Company perform plays and musicals of all kinds several times a year. Pantomimes and concerts are also part of their repertoire. Visiting companies present opera and big band concerts and St Peter’s Church organises a very popular Christmas Carol Concert, as do the scout and girlguiding organisations. There is an annual quiz, and occasional dances and race nights. The hiring charges are very competitive and the Hall Steward will be pleased to show you the facilities. (Tel: 01273 493365)

The Catholic Church Hall is also used for entertainment, in particular by the Sylvan Singers. In addition the Evangelical Free Church Hall in the High Street and St Peter’s Church House provide the venue for smaller social occasions and club activities. Henfield Leisure Centre holds sporting events for children and adults and also some social evenings. Woodmancote Village Hall is used by some of the Henfield organisations including the Chanctonbury Ring Morris Men. 2 miles south of Henfield is Small Dole Village Hall that can also be hired. (Tel: 01273 494788) The Scouts, St. Peter’s Church, the School and Red Oaks Residential Home hold annual fetes in the village and there are occasional events on Henfield Common, including the bi-annual Henfield Summer Show and Fayre. Details of all village entertainment can be found in the monthly Henfield Parish or BN5 Magazines.
