Henfield Parish Council is once again delighted to have been
directly involved in the production of this Guide. I am sure that
it will
be of great use to everyone, whilst at the same time promoting Henfield.
For residents, Henfield is a very special place, surrounded by open
countryside which can be reached easily, whether it is the brooklands
of the River Adur to the west, or the extensive commons to the south
and east. It is a close-knit village with a warm and friendly atmosphere
and a strong community spirit.
I welcome those of you who are coming to live amongst us, or perhaps
only spending a short while in our village. I hope that this Guide
will help you settle in or make your visit more rewarding.
Peter Sheppard.

Henfield Museum is located in the Henfield Hall. The collection
was started by Miss Lucie Bishop in the 1920s, with donations of
objects from the people of Henfield. Much of the collection is on
permanent display, telling the story of Henfield. This is illustrated
with flint implements, Tudor, Victorian and Edwardian household
objects, ladies’ dresses, military uniforms, a penny farthing
bicycle and farming tools. There are also large collections of local
paintings and photographs. Several temporary exhibitions of a topical
nature are staged each year.
The Museum is run by the Parish Council and is open mornings on
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to
12 noon, and afternoons on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2.30 -
4 p.m. Contact: 01273 493155.
