Harwich Quay

Harwich Harbour and its rivers are extremely popular for sailing and recreational activities. Harwich Haven Authority recognises the importance of balancing the needs of the commercial operators with leisure users.

2001 saw the refurbishment of the listed Halfpenny Pier and the provision of overnight moorings and landing facilities within a mini-marina are adjacent to the old pier. The second phase of the project was completed in 2001/2002 with improved facilities for fishing vessels to the east of the Pier. 2003 saw the completion and opening of the new amenities building, with a Pier Master’s office, the Café on the Pier, shower and toilet facilities for visiting yachtsmen and a wet fish sales outlet. The entire project has proved an enormous success and has totally transformed Harwich Quay for visitors.

The Harwich-Shotley-Felixstowe ferry operates from Halfpenny Pier . The Haven Gateway Partnership has improved the landing facilities at Shotley and Felixstowe.

The RNLI has an impressive Lifeboat Station further along Harwich Quay.
