Harpenden has two Anglican parishes, St Nicholas’ and St
John’s, both being in the Deanery of Wheathampstead in the
Diocese of St Albans. The first named has three churches - St Nicholas’
on Church Green in the Town Centre, All Saints at Batford and St
Mary’s to the north at Kinsbourne Green. St John’s Parish
Church is situated in St John’s Road, Southdown.
The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is located in Rothamsted
Avenue, also near to Church Green. Methodist churches are in the
High Street, Batford and at Southdown. There is the United Reformed
Church in Victoria Road and in Vaughan Road there is Christ Church.
The Salvation Army Citadel is in Leyton Green and the Friends have
their Meeting House near the town centre in Southdown Road.
There are also the Evangelical Free Chapel in Crabtree Lane, the
Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Kingdom Hall in Hickling Way, the
Bethany Christian Fellowship and Youth with a Mission at The Oval
in Ambrose Lane.
