The Harpenden and District Local History Society
Established in 1973, the Society encourages interest in the local
history of Harpenden and the surrounding areas.
It holds a considerable archive collection of documents and artefacts
at their office in Park Hall, Leyton Road and undertakes research
into the origins and development of buildings, crafts, trades and
other aspects of the history of the area and publishes these results
as well as reproducing books of local interest by other authors.
The Society mounts an exhibition (2.00pm to 5.00pm) in Park Hall,
Leyton Road on the first Saturday of March, June, September and
December (see notices) with evening speaker meetings held periodically.

The Harpenden Society
The Harpenden Society was founded in 1930 and is a registered charity
which currently has over 1,000 members. There is a very active executive
committee with a number of subcommittees or task groups to deal
with particular activities or campaigns. The Society arranges public
meetings in Park Hall which are addressed by visiting speakers,
publishes four Newsletters per year and offers an annual award in
the form of a plaque for a development which has been completed
during the year and is of outstanding merit. New members are welcome.

Harpenden Seniors Forum
A newly formed group, based at the Seniors Club in Leyton Road whose
main objectives are to ensure the more senior residents of the town
are fully aware of what services, support and information is available
to them locally. The Forum acts as a signpost to the full range
of activities and assistance available to the senior residents in
the town. The Forum has a helpline and website with emergency and

Harpenden Seniors Club
The Seniors Club in Leyton Road is a focal point for the independent
elderly in Harpenden. It is essentially a “Social Club”
which does not provide any medical or nursing services.
The Centre is run by a team of dedicated volunteers and members
have their own committee which enables them to organise events and
run activities themselves.
The Seniors Club offers the opportunity for senior citizens of Harpenden
to meet in comfortable surroundings, offering food and drinks at
reasonable prices, hairdressing for ladies, chiropody and various
social events.
The Centre is open from 10.00am to 1.30pm Monday to Friday except
Bank Holidays. Coffee and tea are served in the lounge and lunches
in the restaurant are available from 12 noon. Outside of these hours
the Centre is available for use by local Charities and Clubs. For
