Education

The Local Education Authority is the East Sussex County Council at Lewes.

There are four County Primary schools and a large Community College in Hailsham (see General Information page), with other secondary schools at Heathfield, Eastbourne, Battle, and Bexhill, some of which also provide technical training.

Prospects House Further education is available at the South Downs College in Kings Drive, Eastbourne, where evening and weekend courses are also arranged for mature students.

Evening institutes in commercial and advanced subjects and handicrafts are also organised locally in Hailsham, according to current demand.

Local students attaining the required standard may qualify for grants from the County Council for entry to training colleges or for further study for diplomas and university degrees.

In addition to the State schools there are preparatory and other independent schools in the district.
