Goole
Town Council - Goole Development Trust
Goole Development Trust was established in June 1997 with the objective
of supporting the social, economic and environmental regeneration
of Goole. Goole Town Council has supported our work from the first
day by providing office space and facilities for the Trust to undertake
its work. The Trust has brought over £6m of funding into Goole
from a wide range of sources including Europe, UK Government charitable
trusts, and energy producers. Very little of this would have been
achieved without the support of the Town Council, its Members and
staff.
The Trust and the Town Council have worked closely together on a
number of initiatives for the benefit of Goole residents. These
include the distribution of 16,000 energy-efficient light bulbs
to Goole residents. This initiative was worth £1.2m with every
set of 4 light bulbs distributed worth £300.00 in terms of
energy savings and reduced cost of replacement bulbs.
The Trust and the Council are also currently distributing
power-down switches for computer equipment. These switches can save
hundreds of pounds on electricity bills by switching off computers,
printers etc. when not in use.
We are also working closely to develop a community composting facility
for Goole where green garden waste is collected, composted and sold
on. This project offers Goole the chance to make a significant contribution
to reducing carbon emissions (in transport and landfill costs).
The partnership working between the Town Council and Goole Development
Trust is a longstanding, active working relationship that has served
Goole well for 10 years.

Working -
The Green Team and Goole Town Council
The Green Team is a registered charity, which provides a low cost
gardening service to local elderly and disabled residents using
a team of mainly voluntary labour. Many of our volunteers have learning
disabilities and the Green Team offers them the opportunity to gain
horticultural and health and safety skills whilst at the same time
promoting team working and social skills.
The Green Team has now been operating for almost ten years, beginning
in 1998 as a joint venture between the former Boothferry CVS and
Goole Town Council, gaining charitable status in April 2000.
The project started out on a part time basis and in the early days
was indebted to Goole Town Council for the allocation of free office
space and the use of a Council vehicle. As our organisation and
client base expanded and moved to its own office at the Courtyard,
a 3 years service level agreement with the Town Council enabled
us to purchase our own new vehicle.
It would not have been possible to develop the project to its current
status without the help and support of Goole Town Council and the
Green Team looks forward to continuing its close working relationship
into the future.
