Church Street

At the west end of the High Street, running between the two town landmarks of the Pepperpot and St Peter & St Paul Church, lies Church Street. In this picturesque cobbled street a wide range of independent traders will sell you almost anything from a cup of coffee to a new ladder. Church Street is so appealing that it is in demand as a film location. Part of an episode of the 2006 series of television’s “Foyle’s War” was filmed here. And, for two weeks in February 2006, the entire street was transformed into a Hollywood film set with fake snow and Christmas decorations. The coffee shop became a bakers, the tile shop a butchers and a gift shop was transformed into a fine food shop as the street masqueraded as Shere High Street. The film “The Holiday” starring Jack Black, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Kate Winslet was released in December 2006.
