It also has a Minor Injuries Unit (not 24 hours). In addition there are large hospitals in Tunbridge Wells (Kent & Sussex), Haywards Heath (Princess Royal), Pembury and Crawley.

ANNUAL COMMUNITY EVENTS
Bike Ride: at the beginning of October each year a village bike ride is organised for adults and children and has proved very popular. The last few years it has been combined with a Village Arts festival.

Spring Clean: each year in March a village spring clean is organised by the Parish Council and supported by Wealden District Council. A considerable amount of litter and debris is removed by the willing volunteers and this event helps keep the village looking good.

SPORT
There are well supported clubs at Forest Row for many activities including badminton, cricket, football, tennis, etc.

The Recreation Ground of some two hectares, is pleasantly situated on the edge of Ashdown Forest and contains games pitches and hard tennis courts. These are used by the Tennis Club or are bookable at the Parish Council Office. After the 1939-45 war a pavilion was built and equipped as a practical memorial for those who gave their lives. Sadly this building was destroyed by fire in 1998. The community worked together to raise funds to add to the lottery grant for the completion of the new Memorial Pavilion which was opened at the end of June 2004. The facilities now available are first class and villagers are justifiably proud of their achievement.Golf Club

The Weir Wood Reservoir of over 40 hectares is the venue of the Weir Wood Sailing Club (01342 823462). Coarse and fly fishing tickets are available at the reservoir - contact the Fishery (01342 822731)

The Royal Ashdown Golf Club (01342 822247) maintains and administers two 18 hole courses - the Old Course and the West Course. The Cantelupe Golf Club, a noted artisan club, plays over the Old Course and the West Course is essentially a ‘pay and play’ course.

YOUTH
The young people of Forest Row are now meeting in The Venu, a classroom block in the grounds of the Community Centre, which has been refurbished with the help of a lottery grant. Plans are well underway to build a purpose-built community facility to include a drop in cafe on the site of the old Youth Club on Foresters Green. There is a purpose built skateboard ramp on Foresters Green, built several years ago and funded by the proceeds of various events organised by the youngsters as well as donations from local businesses and individuals. It has recently been decorated with a mural.

A Youth Shelter has been installed by the Parish Council on Foresters Green with the help of a grant from the Sussex Police Safer Villages Fund. The shelter has proved popular with the youngsters and is well used. Scouts, Cubs and Beavers meet in the Scout Hut, Station Road and Guides and Brownies in the Fire Station at the end of Station Road. There is a Junior Football Club that uses the games pitches at the Recreation Ground.

To the south of the village is Broadstone Warren, a permanent camp site of the Scout Association and in the nearby Hindleap Warren there is an activity centre. London Youth runs the ‘Activenture’ project here providing residential outdoor pursuits weeks for young people with disabilities and special needs.

MUSIC AND DRAMA
The village has two dramatic societies (the Forest Players and the Ashdown Pantomimers Group), an Orchestra and a Film Society. Orchestras, Artists and Choral Societies also perform at Michael Hall School theatre.

FOREST ROW TWINNING ASSOCIATION
Forest Row is twinned with Milly-la-Foret in the Department of Essonne that lies to the south east of Paris. The two villages have much in common each being connected with a forest: Ashdown Forest and the Forest of Fontainbleau. The Twinning Association is very active and organises various events during the year. For further details contact 01342 326117.

FOREST ROW BUSINESS FORUM
An organisation representing some 165 businesses in Forest Row was formed in the summer of 1996 to represent and promote the interests of the deceptively large and wide ranging business community. As the Forum says ‘Forest Row is not just a pretty village on the edge of Ashdown Forest but a buzzing and thriving business community’. The Forum hopes that more people will be encouraged to come to Forest Row for all their needs, to use its free parking and refresh themselves in the wealth of cafes, pubs and restaurants.
