Education
The Schools Pyramid - Ferndown with the nearby Parishes of West Parley and West Moors has a linked pyramid of schools. There are nine First Schools, taking children from 5 to 9 years. where the basic skills of literacy and numeracy are introduced and developed. The children have many opportunities to develop their social skills and self confidence within a caring and orderly environment. First Schools welcome parents as helpers, as volunteers on P.T.A s and as Parent Governors.
From the First School children progress to one of the three Middle Schools in the pyramid. These are in Ferndown, West Moors and Verwood. Children between 9 and 13 are educated in these three Schools and are encouraged to further develop their basic skills and begin to take a more active part in their learning. Opportunities to develop their individual abilities in such areas as Music and Sport are available in all schools and every encouragement is given to children to reach new levels of excellence.
From 13 to 18 Children can take their place in Ferndown Upper School which is a mixed comprehensive School catering for 1300 students with a very successful sixth form of approximately 400 students. Ferndown Upper School has a special place in Art Education
