Allum Lane Community Centre
Just across the railway bridge on the borders of Elstree lies the
Manor House, parts of which date back to the 17th century. It is
thought that Baroness Orczy, author of ‘The Scarlet Pimpernel’,
may have lived in the house early in the 1900s. In 1951 it was bought
by local subscription and is operated as a Community Association
entirely independent of any Local  Authority
funding for operating costs, although the Association gratefully
acknowledges the support of Hertsmere Borough Council and Elstree
and Borehamwood Town Council in the recent refurbishment.
The house now offers a variety of rooms which can be hired by local
clubs and societies or for a variety of private, public and business
events such as children’s parties and club meetings.
Accommodation is also provided for the Citizens’ Advice Bureau
and several local charities.
Behind the Manor House is the multi- purpose Allum Hall with well
equipped kitchen and facilities for larger gatherings, and family
celebrations.
