Welcome

Welcome to the sixth Town Guide published by Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council.

Our first Guide was published in 1950 when this Authority was known under its original name of Elstree Parish Council. At that time the Parish consisted of 2195 acres and had an estimated population of 9000.

In order to attract more residents to the rapidly expanding Borehamwood, the Guide boasted that a ‘moderate rainfall and excellent sunshine record combine with an invigorating atmosphere to provide a most healthy climate’.

The second Guide celebrated our centenary in 1994 by which time the town had nearly 30,000 residents, and the third guide celebrated the Millennium.

Throughout those changing times this Council has acted as the ‘grass roots’ Authority.

We feel that Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council is already leading the way into the next one hundred years by providing many community services to the benefit of all in an efficient and cost effective manner.

We hope you will find this Town Guide useful to keep as both a souvenir and a handy reference source.
