Elstree and Borehamwood Entertainment

Entertainment remains a major activity of the Town Council, embracing a wide range of activities to suit all tastes.

The BBC Elstree Concert Band at Allum Hall The Council has grant-aided or otherwise assisted a variety of local entertainment organisations such as the Elstree Youth Theatre, Borehamwood Brass Band and the BBC Elstree Concert Band - all of which receive much acclaim. In the past a grant has been given to enable ‘Borehamwoodstock’, the town’s largest outdoor musical event, to take place and the Council also supports the Elstree and Borehamwood Museum and the Elstree Screen Heritage group and their annual film festival.

For many years the Town Council has staged a free public fireworks display on Guy Fawkes Night which now attracts several thousand spectators. The aim is to provide a safe environment for all to enjoy this tradition.

The programme of coach outings, started in the 1980s, regularly enables over 600 local senior citizens to go on summer day trips to a variety of destinations. These range from attractive countryside routes to traditional seaside towns.

For younger residents several Battle of the Bands competitions have been organised to encourage local musical talent and the Council supports a local Youth Council.

Christmas Lights

Every year the shopping centres of Manor Way, Leeming/Aycliffe Road, and Shenley Road, along with Elstree High Street, are illuminated by a display of Christmas decorations considered to be one of the finest in the area. New decorations are purchased to keep the displays fresh and distinctive.
