Foreword

The Town Guide was published and circulated about 2 years ago and was very well received by all who received a copy. This new guide updates the information provided in the first guide and gives news of recent developments in the town.Millennium Clock

Eastwood and the surrounding areas continue to develop. We now have 2 brand new home centres for the elderly, one situated on Hilltop on Nottingham Road and another one situated opposite the Sun Inn at the junction of Church Street and Derby Road. The site of a former school on Walker Street has been cleared and is awaiting redevelopment proposals for housing and community amenity areas. New shops are being opened on the main street and a new commercial development site is being planned for land to the west of Mansfield Road.

On the sports and recreation elements the Eastwood Town Football Club continues to make impressive progress and has achieved growing recognition as a fully professional and well managed club. Eastwood Town Cricket Club whilst being wholly amateur continues their own impressive development running a number of teams and providing invaluable training for youngsters. The Town Council is increasing its commitment to support all community groups that clearly bring benefit to Eastwood residents.

The most important resource in our town however, is the community and the people who live in Eastwood. In my role as Town Mayor, I am meeting so many wonderful aspiring hard working people who put so much effort into making Eastwood a town to be proud of.

I do hope this new guide will be useful to all who read it. On behalf of Eastwood Town Council, I would like also to record our sincere appreciation to all the advertisers featured in the guide, without whose support this guide would not have been possible.

Josie Forrest, Town Mayor of Eastwood 2008/9.
