If
you think museums are dark, stuffy places full of stuff no one wants
to look at, think again! The Wiltshire Heritage Museum contains
a rich source of information about the archaeological and natural
history of Wiltshire and is definitely worth a visit.
Owned by the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society,
the museum has been officially ‘designated’ for its
outstanding collections.
Among the displays you’ll find one of the finest collections
of prehistoric artefacts in Britain, including some of the most
important objects associated with the Avebury World Heritage site
(see page XXX). There’s a wealth of other interesting exhibits
as well, such as Jurassic fossils, ancient pottery, Bronze Age jewellery,
Roman incense burners, gold and silver coins, early 17th century
manuscripts - you will find them all here in this fascinating museum.
