Britain in Bloom

Cricklade - A Community in Bloom

A Cricklade in Bloom group was founded in early 2004 at the request of Cricklade Town Council, to assist the Council in their entry in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom competition. ‘The Bloomers’ as they are known locally are a small group of around 20 volunteers; made up of a cross section of the community.

This photograph of many feet setting about creating a new border captures the community spirit in the Town; many feet/hands make light work; the team has drive, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to Make Cricklade A Better Place (our logo).

‘The Bloomers’ enthusiasm has rapidly spread to all corners of the community. Being part of Britain in Bloom has given the town a goal; so many people, businesses and community groups want to take part and make their area a more attractive place.

Endof the line In 2008 Cricklade was awarded RHS Britain in Bloom Gold and the title of the Best Small Town in the UK along with an award for Conservation and Environment for North Meadow and an Outstanding Community Effort award.

The whole community from Pre-School to elderly residential housing groups have come on board Cricklade - A Community In Bloom.

Cricklade Bloomers installed the raised bed on the old embankment facing the road junction and a commemorative railway signal was donated by the Swindon and Cricklade Railway Society. The signal was manufactured in Swindon at the Great Western Works and represents a colourful reminder of the days of the railway in Cricklade.
