Introducing Crediton

Great Western Mrris, May Day celebrations
In the heart of the West Country, Crediton is a market town with a village atmosphere. It is a strong community with an active voluntary sector, numerous interest groups, sports clubs and social organisations. It offers a wealth of cultural activities and events attracting visitors from surrounding towns and villages, from across the south west region and from overseas.

The High Street runs through the centre of Crediton with its diverse and largely independent local shops. Crediton is a Fair Trade town with many shops and businesses using and selling fairly-traded supplies and products. It has a thriving industrial estate accommodating large and small businesses _ several of world-wide reputation. Many artists and craft workers are based in and around Crediton producing work in a wide range of art forms and crafts and the town has gained a justifiable reputation for excellence in creativity and the arts.
May Day celebrations
Crediton serves the agricultural community and is set in a landscape of farmland extending across gently rolling hills and broad valleys. A network of footpaths gives access to the countryside and nearby parkland. At the same time, the town has regular bus and rail services to Exeter and Barnstaple and is within easy reach of the north and south coasts of Devon, Dartmoor, Exmoor and national road links.

All this and history, too …

Many English towns are proud of being listed in the Doomsday book of 1086 but as a Saxon town, Crediton was up and running 400 years before the Doomsday Book was even thought of – and it’s been up and running ever since.
