Looking Forward

Crediton ThatchingA new school While the split-site feature of the present day Community College may have some advantages, it has long been the ambition of many to see the school relocated to a purpose-built single site and discussions to achieve such an ambitious development form part of long-term plans for the future of the area.

Climate Action Crediton has an active Climate Action group with over 200 local supporters working towards developing a more sustainable and self-sufficient community in the face of global warming. Crediton is part of the fast growing Transition Town movement which seeks to unite local communities around issues of climate change. Subgroups are looking at energy, transport, tree-planting and co-operative housing. With support from local traders the group has successfully campaigned to reduce plastic bag use. CCA would like to see more locally owned shops and businesses and more locally grown food, reducing the need for transportation and its high cost.

Town Council plans The Town Council has policy plans covering economy, the environment, development and transport. It is guided in creating these plans by consulting with local groups and the community at large. The council supports the work of Crediton Climate Action and is engaged in the discussion as to what forms a sustainable community. Like many other towns, Crediton faces the challenge of reconciling competing and sometimes conflicting priorities in a fast-changing world.
