Focus on Food!

Crediton is a great place for food. Whether you want to eat out, buy food to cook yourself or buy ready-made products from local sources, you can find what you want right here. The town has a rural hinterland and although farming has changed dramatically since the last Crediton cattle market was held nearly fifty years ago, there are still many farms and smallholdings producing quality food which is available in local shops, village stores and markets.

The Farmers market The award-winning Farmers’ Market is held on the first Saturday of each month in the Town Square from 10 am to 1 pm. Forty local food and craft producers offer a wide selection of meat, fish, cheeses, preserves, drinks, vegetables and seasonal fruit. You Home-grown squashcan also buy eggs, bread, cakes, pies and pastries, a variety of olives, Mediterranean delicacies and garden plants. Freshly made drinks and snacks will keep you going while you shop and there are plenty of places to sit and eat or simply to watch the world go by. See page 39 for Farmers’ Market contact details.

Local food sources Many of the town’s cafes, restaurants and food shops source their supplies and ingredients locally. To find out which they are and for further details about them, go to www.creditonlocalproduce.co.uk. This website, which is run by the Food and Farming group of Sustainable Crediton, will also give you information about growing your own food, recipes, events, special offers and much more.
