Festivities and Celebrations

Chichester Festivities
The Chichester Festivities established in 1975, is an annual event taking place over an extended fortnight centred on the first two weeks in July. The events during the festivities range widely over literature, music, painting, crafts, politics and history with many national and international artists and speakers taking part. Venues are throughout the City. In recent years a fringe has appeared alongside the main festivities. The occasion is used by many local groups to put on a special programme of events.

Southern Cathedrals Festival
Although started originally in 1904, the Southern Cathedrals Festival was established in its present form in 1960 when Winchester , Salisbury and Chichester agreed a three yearly cycle each taking it in turn to play the host to a five day festival of music and liturgy, and to provide an opportunity for the three choirs to work together. The main theme of the festival is choral music but there is also an organ recital and the Festival Eucharist on Friday is one of the highlights.

Chichester in Bloom
Together with representatives from the community, both the City Council and District Council have formed the Chichester In Bloom Steering Committee which aims to increase the awareness of making the City a green and environmentally friendly place. Forums have also been formed to encourage residents to have their say in the shaping of the parks and open spaces in the City.

By both Councils working together and with the support of the community, the award of Silver Gilt has been won in the South and South East In Bloom competition for the past two years.
