Although not officially twinned, Carterton Oxfordshire and Carterton
New Zealand have developed strong links of friendship. Carterton
New Zealand is situated some 57 miles north-east of the country’s
capital of Wellington and is the centre of a thriving farming district.
Every year the town holds a daffodil carnival which attracts many
visitors from the surrounding areas. The two towns are in regular
contact and the Town Mayor is delighted to be able to offer hospitality
to visitors from the other side of the world.
In 2007, Carterton New Zealand celebrated the 150th Anniversary
of its founding, and three Carterton Town Councillors visited New
Zealand and joined in the celebrations. They delivered a gift from
the residents of Carterton Oxfordshire and presented a Bond of Friendship
marking the special relationship between the two towns.
