Carterton Town Council

Carterton Town Council was established in 1985 when the Carterton & Black Bourton Parishes were split.

Carterton’s sixteen Town Councillors are elected every four years and represent the five wards within the town. The next Election for Town Council is due in May 2011. Details of serving Town Councillors are available from the Town Hall and are also on the Town Council’s website - www.carterton-tc.gov.uk. The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Chairmen of the various sub-committees are elected annually by the Town Councillors.

Remebrance The Town Council meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.45 p.m. The Planning Committee meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm. Agendas are posted on notice boards and on the website.

The Council employs three office staff, the Town Clerk, the Assistant Town Clerk and the Administration Assistant. They are available at the Town Hall between 9.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. to help with any enquiries.

The Town Hall was built in 1983 and is sited in the centre of the town on the Alvescot Road by the War Memorial.

The functions of the Town Council

The Town Council maintains a number of facilities throughout the town including two recreation grounds, two children’s playparks, a sCarterton 10kkateboard park and BMX track, squash courts, allotments, a burial ground and an area of water meadows which is open to the public. The Council also actively pursues through direct action or grant aid, measures to improve and enhance the general environment and condition of the town.

These include special events such as an Extreme Wheels Day at the skateboard park and a 10K Road Run organised each year in conjunction with RAF Brize Norton.

The Town Council was awarded Quality status by central government in 2004 in recognition of its proactive approach to providing first class local services.

West Oxfordshire District Council
